East Baton Rouge Parish students were in for a special literary treat during Teen Read Week, Oct. 9-15.
​
Author, poet, screenwriter and educator Terry A. O'Neal, a resident of California, toured several schools throughout the parish, spending Oct. 12 and Oct. 13 with Zachary High students thanks to a coordinated effort between the school's library and drama and English departments.

Gilbert: Poet, screenwriter is struggling to heal from her loss, but she’s determined to make mom proud

The Stockton native and Franklin High School graduate was working on a screenplay, an action drama, she hoped to shop around Hollywood and was finishing her fifth book of poetry, but all of that stopped when her mother, Barbara Ann Williams, was hospitalized at University of California Davis Medical Center.

STOCKTON - Aside from live music, craft booths and bounce houses, visitors to Stockton's 31st annual Black Family Day on Monday had a chance to come face to face with elite black writers of Northern California.
Among them, Terry A. O'Neal, Stockton native and 1991 Franklin High School graduate, greeted readers at a table covered with her books of fiction and poetry. She now lives in Sacramento with her husband and four children.
